Abstract
Purpose: This study was to evaluate the effect of the moxibustion on the constipation of CVA patients. Method: This study was designed with nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected from 17 subjects in the experimental group and 19 subjects in the control group from july 1th, to October 18th 2004. The subjects were assigned randomly. The subjects of the experimental group underwent the daily Chu¢¨nchu(ST25) acupoints moxibustion for 4 weeks. The measurement tools were frequency of bowel movement, stool consistency and CAS(Constipation Assessment Scale). The data were analyzed with the t-test, ¥ö©÷-test, and repeated measures ANOVA. Result: The frequency of bowel movement per week was significantly different between the experimental and the control group(F=7.89, p=.000). The stool consistency was not significantly different between the experimental and the control group(F=19.05, p=.429). The severity of constipation measured by CAS was significantly different between the experimental and the control group(F=13.56, p=.000). Conclusion: Based on the results described above, it can be considered that Chu¢¨nchu(ST25) acupoints moxibustion is an effective oriental nursing intervention on the constipation of CVA patients.
